Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About the Program

What is Drive Into STEM?

Drive Into STEM is a nationwide initiative where NAPA stores and NAPA Auto Care Centers host community events that introduce students to automotive careers. Students build and test saltwater-powered cars, sparking interest in STEM and empowering tomorrow’s technicians.

Why is NAPA hosting this event?

The program addresses the national technician shortage by engaging students early, showing NAPA’s commitment to education, innovation, and workforce development. It also builds positive community connections and brand loyalty.

Kits & Registration

What comes in the event kit?

Each kit includes 25 saltwater car kits, printed/digital instructions, posters, flyers, and access to training resources.

How much does the kit cost?

$520 per set of 25 saltwater car kits. Limit 2 sets per site. Shipping is included.

How do I order and register?

Order your kit at DriveIntoSTEM.com. Registration is built into checkout, and you’ll enter your event details there. Your order confirmation email will include instructions to access training registration, digital resources, and marketing materials.

Event Logistics

When should I host my event?

The official launch is November 8 (National STEM Day), but you can host anytime after that date.

Where should the event be held?

Events can take place in your NAPA store or shop or at community locations like schools or local centers. Ensure there’s space for tables, activity stations, and safe movement.

What is my role as a store/shop owner/employee?

Your role begins before the event by registering, reviewing training resources, promoting locally, and preparing your space and materials. During the event, you’ll welcome families, guide the saltwater car build, and spark excitement about automotive careers and NAPA’s role in workforce development. Afterward, you’ll submit event data, share photos or stories, and reflect on the experience to support future events.

Can I post photos or videos from my event?

Yes. Locations are encouraged to share photos and short videos on social media to highlight community involvement and showcase NAPA’s commitment to STEM. If minors are clearly identifiable in your photos or videos, a parent/guardian media release is required before posting. If your event takes place at a school or community site, be sure to follow that organization’s policies. Best practice is to focus on action shots of the cars and activities rather than close-up faces unless you have signed permission. A media release form will be provided in your event materials.

Training & Support

Do I need training before leading an event?

Yes. Once you purchase your kit, you’ll receive access to all training resources, including live training webinars and on-demand videos. These resources—along with the digital activity guide, facilitator workshop guidelines, and best practices—will help you feel confident leading the saltwater car activity and engaging students safely and effectively.

What if I need help troubleshooting the car builds?

Troubleshooting tips are built into the facilitator guide and video. You can also reach out to [email protected] or call Central Creativity at (866) 381–1760.
